The Mid-South Fair Collects Can Goods for the Mid-South Food
Bank for Feeding America’s Hunger Action Month
The Mid-South Fair is partnering
with the Mid-South Food Bank to help them restock their shelves during Feeding
America’s Hunger Action Month. You can help the Mid-South Fair end hunger in our
community by bringing canned goods to the Mid-South Fair on Sunday, October 2, 2011. You will receive $1 off your regular adult admission price on the final day of the Fair only. Help us fill our pick-up truck provided by Mid-South Ford Dealers.
The mission of Feeding America is to feed America’s hungry through a nationwide
network of member food banks and engage our country in the fight to end hunger.
September is the month that they ask their network of member food banks to spend the month assisting the community with food campaigns and volunteer projects to restock the area food banks.
Right now, millions of Americans are struggling with hunger. These are often hardworking adults, children and seniors who simply cannot make ends meet and are forced to go without food for several meals, or even days. One in six Americans is fighting hunger. “We know hunger exists in every state across the nation, but it looks different from county to county, and therefore, so do the solutions,” said Estella Mayhue-Greer, president & CEO of Mid-South Food Bank.
The Mid-South Fair knows how great the need is in our community so we wanted to
make a major impact. “It’s time to educate ourselves and the Mid-South about hunger in Shelby County. We felt that the culmination of the September drive and our 2011 fair was our opportunity to pitch-in and do our part,” says Belinda Anderson, President of the Mid-South Fair. “We wanted to end our Fair with a major community effort that will make a huge impact in the entire Mid-South community.”
We want to thank Mid-South Ford Dealers and Universal Fair for assisting us in this effort.
The Mid-South Fair Collects Teddy Bears for the
Memphis Child Advocacy Center
The Mid-South Fair is partnering with the Memphis Child Advocacy Center to help them restock the teddy bear wall. Please bring a new stuffed teddy bear to the Mid-South Fair on opening day, Friday, September 23, 2011. You will receive half off your regular adult admission price on opening day only.
The motto of the Memphis Child Advocacy Center is "helping victims become children again." The Center's mission is to help children who are victims of sexual abuse. The center provides counseling for sexually abused kids and it also gives out teddy bears to those kids. Each child gets to pick out a brand new teddy bear.
The center treated 1,200 children last year. They need at least 2,000 bears to make sure every child gets one during their time at the center.
"When they come in and see this big bear wall full of teddy bears," says Virginia Stallworth, the center's associate director, "it's a loud message for them that this is a safe place for kids."
